Oya Media Group is owned and operated by Creators / Producers Alison Duke and Ngardy Conteh George. Together we have over 40 years of experience in film and TV production. We have worked with non-profit organizations, broadcasters such as CBC and CityTV, Sundance Channel, NHK, DR, Superchannel, and independent production companies like Maple Rock Media, Shadow Shows, Chimpanzee Productions, Take Action Films in the United States and Canada.
With the launch of our new enterprise, we are seeking to establish international relationships to develop partnerships for their projects and to develop strategies for overall company growth in the international marketplace.
We have attended Film and TV Markets like TIFF, Hot Docs, MIPTV, Sundance and Planet in Focus. Previous conference successes include pitching The Flying Stars (formally ‘Leone Stars’) at the HotDocs Forum and the Digital Diaspora Family Reunion (digital project) at the Hotdocs Industry pitch and Sundance New Media Conference. Ngardy won the TIFF Pitch This for The Flying Stars in 2011.
Both Alison and Ngardy specialize in developing strong personal working relationships built on trust, loyalty and performance. In 2019 they will attend international media markets to seek distribution for their recent CBC POV documentary Mr. Jane and Finch, to find partners for their numerous projects in development and to widen their network and grow meaningful new relationships.
With the success of The Kalief Browder Story, What Happened, Miss Simone?, Strong Island, Traffic Stop,13th, Step, I Am Not Your Negro, Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, Carmen and Geoffrey, For Love of Liberty: The Story of America’s Black Patriots, Teach Us All and Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise, we see an increase of black-focused and black-created stories reaching the mainstream. Oya Media Group is well positioned to bring a black Canadian perspective to the international marketplace.
