Seydina Soumah
Seydina Soumah (BFA, School of Image Arts) is a writer, filmmaker, actor and photographer. His work explores the everyday nuances that make up the human experience, particularly through the lens of peripheral figures, characters and narratives. His (written and co-directed) thesis fiction short film Counterfeit shed a spotlight on sneaker resale culture and the everyday Black experience. The film earned one win (“Best Performance by an Ensemble”) out of three nominations following its premiere at the 2021 R**rson University Film Festival (RUFF). Soumah was also the recipient of the inaugural RUFF “BIPOC in Film” award, along with the “Norman Jewison Filmmaker Award” scholarship the previous year. When not creating—he can be found reading, watching films, taking photos, or talking about his love of Sidney Poitier movies and the arts.
