Zavia Forrest

Hi, I'm Zavia! I'm a third year Integrated Media student at the OCAD University, with a focus in filmmaking, specifically writing, directing, and acting. I've loved film for as long as I can remember. At fourteen, as part of a film camp for racialized girls and women (ran by Black Women Film! and Reel Youth), I made a short film responding to the uprise in brutality and oppression against my community (It's Not You, It's Me.) and I immediately changed my career path. I am a storyteller; I have immersed myself into filmmaking, admiring and learning every single aspect of the visual art, and using this medium to tell my stories. Film is my way of sharing my experiences, my passions and creating intimate spaces for representation and healing that has often been sidelined or ignored for people who look like me.
